一、报名时如何选择学校
成人高考院校与其他各种类型的学校一样，选择成人高等学院首先要看其师资力量如何，是否有专业的教授成教课程的老师;其次要看其成人高等教育是否有独立的学院编制;第三要对学校进行实地考察，看其教学的硬件设施是否齐备;第四要尽量选择那些比较有名的，或者办学时间比较长的学校报考。
此外，还要看其是否是一所管理严格的学校。因为成人高等教育学院自身具备颁发学历证书的资格，所以有些院校就打出容易拿到毕业证书的旗号进行招生。但一般这类学校的社会口碑不好，用人单位不认可他们的毕业生。学生在选择成人高等学校时，学习态度要调整好，是为了提高自身知识和能力水平才参加成考，接受成人高等教育的。选择管理严格的学校，不仅可以保证学生在校期间获得扎实的知识基础和相应的专业技能，而且其社会口碑很好，能够得到很多用人单位的认可，文凭的含金量自然很高。
二、考生志愿填报
每个考生可填报1至2个学校志愿，每个学校可选报1至2个专业志愿。如果填报二个志愿，不得跨科类兼报，即要保持所报志愿的科类一致、考试科目相同。
1、报考高中起点升专科：考生可以填报三个学习形式和专业科类相同的高职(高专)志愿。
2、报考高中起点升本科：考生在填报三个学习形式和专业科类相同的本科志愿后，还可以填报三个科类相同的高职(高专)志愿。
3、报考专科起点升本科：考生可以填报三个学习形式和专业科类相同的本科志愿。
4、为了给考生提供更多的求学机会，在本科和专科志愿后还设了两项调剂意向选择。
5、凡报考艺术类、体育类专业的必须为第1志愿，否则该志愿无效。
成人高考录取工作采取分批录取的办法，即艺术、体育类专业参加第1批录取，高中起点本科、专升本专业参加第二批录取，高中起点专科参加第三批录取。录取中，各批录取工作不会影响到其他批次录取。
就高中起点考生而言，如艺术、体育类专业没被录取，不会影响到本科或专科专业的录取;同样，填报专科且符合录取条件的考生，也不会因为填报本科志愿而受到影响。在填志愿的过程中，考生要注意正确区别志愿的类别。有的考生想报艺术类本科专业，但却填在"高中起点本科非艺术体育"栏内，这实际上浪费了一次宝贵的机会。
第1志愿重要，第二志愿和调剂志愿也不能轻视。在志愿表上，每批录取院校考生可以选报两个志愿，每个录取院校，可填两个专业，另外，还设计了"所填志愿未被录取是否同意调剂"和"同意调剂的条件"栏。考生必须慎重选择第1志愿，重视第二志愿和调剂志愿的选择。同时还要注意拉开第1、第二志愿间的差距。
在填写调剂录取栏时，考生首先应明白调剂栏的内容和含义。志愿表上，"所填志愿未被录取是否同意调剂"的含义是考生所报志愿学校未被录取时，是否同意调剂到其他院校："同意调剂的条件"的含义是考生所报志愿未被录取时，如同意调剂录取，是同意调剂到"相同学习形式"，还是"相近专业"或"就近学校".对于没有特殊要求的考生而言，首先应在"所填志愿未被录取是否同意调剂"内选择"同意"栏，而"同意调剂的条件"内不作任何选择。
一般考试科目相同的专业，可以兼报，但报高职不能兼报专科。高中起点本科可以兼报专科外语、外经贸类的专业。
三、志愿填报先本后专
如果既想报本科，又想报专科时，建议考生先报本科，后专科，因为录取时，先录本科，后录专科，如果倒着报，万一考分高了，本科就无法录取了。
填报志愿时，还要注意一志愿和二志愿关系。录取时，北京市成招办规定，从第1志愿高分到低分录取，一志愿未录满的情况下，可以考虑第二志愿。如果第1志愿录满了，则第二志愿不予录取。所以说在填报志愿时，一定要考虑学校的师资情况、招生名额等因素。
再有就是艺术类考生不能兼报文史类，专升本考生一定要注意科类问题，跨类考生不能调剂录取。这在以往的考试报名中，也经常有考生填错。
四、避免误报浪费志愿
考生要仔细阅读宣传材料中的每一项，理解各类符号代表的内容含义，避免因错填而浪费志愿。《目录》专业后面注明的内容，尤其要仔细查看，对限招、系统内委培的专业不能填报，避免浪费志愿。
一般学校后注明或"委托培养"、"定向招生"的有生源范围。许多学校的定向生(或委培生)不对社会招生。另外像北京大学、北京师范大学、中国人民大学、中央财经大学等名牌大学全日制脱产学历班多不向社会招生，一般为企业委培或定向招生。这些都是考生要了解的。有些艺术、体育、医类对单科成绩或身体素质有特殊要求，对有限报条件的专业，考生一定要看清楚，以免误报。
考生填报的学校和专业都要有合理的梯度，要慎重选择第1志愿学校，填好第1志愿至关重要，第1志愿是考生提高录取成功率的关键，第1志愿可选报自己最想学习的专业和学校;避免同一层次的志愿互相"重叠".填报志愿时尤其不能把多年来报名人数多、录取分数高的院校或专业并列起来，否则非第1志愿将不起作用。例如一个考生将北外、北语、外交学院、对外经贸大、首师大、二外等并列考虑，这就等于浪费志愿，因为这些院校同属一个档次。
第二志愿在录取中的作用远不能与第1志愿相比。但是，绝不应由此而轻视填报第二志愿的意义。由于学校志愿分布的不平衡性，每年总有些院校的第1志愿无法录取满额，需要调阅第二志愿甚至调阅调剂志愿考生的档案。万一考试考生发挥有失水准，第二志愿就起作用了。因此，考生可将第二志愿作为保底志愿，要仔细斟酌、慎重落笔。
五、报考时各专业可否兼报
对于这个问题，我们首先应掌握这样一条总的原则，就是在相同层次中，相同考试科目的专业可以兼报。具体到2005年的招生政策是这样规定的：
1、高中起点升本、专科文史类、理工类专业不能兼报。
2、高中起点升本科专业可以兼报高中起点升专科(高职)专业。
3、公安类成人高校的全部专业、医学(中医学类、药学类等两个一级学科除外)、中医药和中央司法警官教育学院的监狱管理、劳教管理专业不能相互兼报，但可兼报文史或理工类中文化课考试科目相同的专业。
4、在高中起点本、专科专业中，报考艺术类专业的，可以兼报文史类专业;报考体育类专业的，可以兼报理工类专业。
5、专科起点升本科只能在统考考试科目相同的专业中兼报。
报考高职(高专)和专升本专业，只能在统考考试科目相同的专业中兼报。高起本可以兼报高职(高专)。报考艺术类专业，可以兼报文史类专业;报考体育类专业，可以兼报理工类专业。
